James Gibson, Jr. 73, passed away Saturday morning, November 6, 2021, at the Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born n May 16, 1948 in Cooperative, Kentucky son of James and Vernice Loretta (Henry) Gibson, Sr.
James graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1966 and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War Era and proudly served on the USS Prairie where he was proud to have been a “Shellback” (which is a designation for those in the Navy who have crossed the equator). James married the love of his life, Veda Paris on July 28, 1973 in Muncie and she preceded him in death in 2011. Mr. Gibson had worked as a production worker for Guide Lamp in Anderson for 30 years prior to his retirement in 2003. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union, enjoyed camping, playing Pogo on the computer, supervising various family projects such as decorating for holidays but, mostly he enjoyed being with his family, especially going to his grandchildren’s activities such as sports.
Survivors include 1 son Michael Gibson (Stephannee), Muncie; 1 daughter, Cindy Gillum (Jeff), Muncie; 5 grandchildren, Tanya Dellinger (Jeremy), Muncie, Greg Studebaker (Josh), Pendleton, Codi Gibson, Gracee Gibson, and Drew Gibson, all of Muncie; 2 great grandchildren, Kayla Parker (Peyton), Muncie and Kassidy Dellinger, Muncie; 1 brother, Roger Gibson (Kay), Muncie; 1 sister, Joan Tomey (Randy), Muncie; 1 very special brother-in-law, Ronnie Strong, Daleville; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Mark Studebaker and Neil Studebaker; his parents; 1 sister, Judy Strong.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021, 12:00 P.M. at Parson Mortuary with Pastor Rusty Clements officiating. Burial will follow at Beech Grove Cemetery. Parson Mortuary Cremation Center is entrusted with these arrangements. Military honors will be rendered by the Delaware County Honor Guard.
Friends may call at Parson Mortuary on Thursday evening November 11, 2021 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and again on Friday, November 12, 2021 from 11:00 A.M. until time of services.
