James “Jim” L. McCurdy, 77, passed away early Friday morning, August 21, 2020, at the Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on January 2, 1943 in Muncie the son of Ralph Duane and Betty Jean (Shirey) McCurdy.
James graduated from Central High School in 1961 and later married the love of his life Phyllis (Pierce) McCurdy on October 18, 1963 in Muncie and she has preceded him in death on November 2, 2018. He had worked for the Deli in Ross’s Grocery Store on Hoyt Ave. and the Marsh Grocery Store on Tillotson Ave prior to working for Chevrolet plant in Muncie as a tow motor Driver, and served for 35 ½ years until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the Avondale Sympathy Club, the United Auto Workers Union #499 and the Full Gospel Temple. James enjoyed reading, collecting stamps and to say he was a big fan of Connie Frances is an understatement!
Survivors include 2 sons, Timothy McCurdy, Muncie and James R. McCurdy (Letha), Byrdstown, Tennessee; 1 daughter Mellissa Baker(Danny), Farmland; 1 granddaughter, Darian Hughes (companion Steven Fox), Muncie; 1 future great grandson, Hayden James Fox; father, Ralph McCurdy, Muncie; 2 sisters, Gloria Mills (Terry) , Lafayette and Jill black (Larry) , Muncie; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife of 55 years, Phyllis, he is preceded in death by his mother.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday September 1, 2020, 1:00 P.M. at the Full Gospel Temple with Pastor Denny Helton officiating. Burial will follow at Beech Grove Cemetery. Parson Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
Friends may call at the Full Gospel Temple on Tuesday September 1, 2020 from 11:00 A.M. until time of service.
