Janet Elaine Veal, 80, of Muncie, Indiana, passed away on November 7, 2025. She was born on May 20, 1945, in Muncie, Indiana, to Emmett and Wilma (Chandler) Goshern.

Janet was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved working puzzles, was a wonderful cook, and faithfully studied her Bible. Janet was proud to be the first female graduate of Muncie Southside High School, Class of 1963. She retired from Sears after more than 20 years of service.

A longtime member of Muncie’s First Church of the Nazarene, Janet taught Sunday School for many years and was deeply loved by the children she taught. She cherished celebrating every holiday and was known for her caring heart and generosity, always ready to lend a hand or listening ear. Janet was also a dedicated member of TOPS, participating for most of her life.

Janet is survived by her loving husband of 14 years, Vernon Veal; her children Richard (Donna) Atkins, Steven Atkins, Susan Fellowfield, and Dale Veal; grandchildren Matthew, Andrew, Jessica, Zachary, Aravis, Jason, and Travis (Renee); great-grandchildren Lizzy, Lailah, Aiden, Andrew, Elle, Sophia H., Grayson, Lillian, Sophia W., Persephone, and Bradley; her sister Melody Aldridge; sister-in-law Heidi Atkins; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Michael Goshern and Carol Williams; and her first husband, Donald Atkins.

Funeral services will be held at Parson Mortuary on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. until service time at 7:00 p.m.
