Jerry E. Hirst, 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday evening, February 22, 2021 at the Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 30, 1936 in Holly Springs, Arkansas the son of Marvin Henry and Alma Lee (Walker) Hirst.
Jerry graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1955 and later married the love of his life, Mary Juanita (Mann) Hirst on August 9, 1958 in Terre Haute, Indiana and she survives. Mr. Hirst had worked as a Tool Design Engineer for Glassco, Westinghouse and finally Lockheed-Martin where he retired in 1998 after 13 years of service. He was a member of the S.M. E. (Society of Manufacturing Engineers), the Mt. Summit Primitive Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. Jerry enjoyed wood working, bowling, playing euchre, and was a Licensed Pilot. Mostly, Jerry treasured the time he could spend with his family and friends.
Besides his wife of 62 years, Mary, he is survived by his five children, Jeff Hirst, Hawaii, Nancy JoAnne Lawrence (Chris), Springport, Sally McCullers (Rob) Bloomington, Illinois, Russell Edward Hirst (Cindy), New Castle and Ben Hirst, Littleton, Colorado; fifteen Grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, Melanie, Jacob, Jared, Abigail, Mary, Grace, Samuel, Katrina, Justin, Hannah, Cora, Jacob and Derrick; eleven great grandchildren; his twin brother, Perry Hirst, Anderson; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by one granddaughter, Heather; one daughter-in-law, Cathy Hirst; three great grandchildren; six siblings, Louise Peyton, Louis Hirst, Hazel Rufenbarger, Fern VanHorn, Faye Hirst and Albert Hirst; his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021, 1:00 P.M. at Parson Mortuary with Brother Brian Ballenger officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Summit Cemetery. Friends may call at the Parson Mortuary on Saturday, February 27, 2021, from 11:00 A.M. until time of service.
