Jesse and Jewel York left this life together to live with Jesus within a few hours of each other. Jewel left on Wednesday (11/16) at 11:45 pm and Jesse followed shortly after on Thursday (11/17) at 1:15 am. Jewel passed from dementia and Jesse from cancer. They did not want to be here without each other and God blessed them so they didn’t have to be.
Jesse and Jewel were both born in Fentress County Tennessee. Jesse was born on May 2, 1941, to Arthur Douglas and Hazel (Whited) York. Jewel was born on April 1, 1944, to William Dudley and Mandy (Doss) Maynard. Jesse and Jewel were members of Westside United Baptist Church, Muncie. Jesse and Jewel were married on October 4, 1961, 2022 marked 61 years of marriage. They moved from Tennessee to Muncie shortly after they were married.
Jesse retired from General Motors in 2006 after 45 years of service. Jewel was a homemaker and together they raised 3 sons: James (Sandy), Danny (Amy), and David (Jenn). Grandchildren; Tara Dodson, Audrey (Caleb) Wilcoxson, Michael Kline, Johnny Prince, Wyatt York, Mason Jesse York, Jackson Brunty, Max Fults. Great Grandchildren; Gracelynn Beaty, Ayrianna Armstrong, Mallory Dodson, Carson Wilcoxson. Jewel’s sisters; Bessie Toll, Lorene Betty Hinds, Joyce Ordean Davis (Doug). Many nieces and nephews as well as friends at the East McGalliard McDonalds.
Jesse was preceded in death by his wife Jewel, parents, 5 brothers, and 1 sister. Jewel was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers. The family wants to thank the sweet, caring staff at Lincolnshire Place as well as Heart-to-Heart Hospice for their outstanding care for Jesse and Jewel.
Service will be officiated by Pastor Larry Waters on Tuesday, November 22 at Parson Mortuary at 1 pm, with burial to follow at Tomlinson Cemetery. A viewing will be from 11 am-1 pm on Tuesday.
