John Roland Claspell entered the celestial kingdom and was reunited with his wife, parents, and family on December 12, 2023. He was born in Ora, Indiana on December 23, 1932, to Grace Irene (Johnson Claspell-Mason and Lewis Taylor Claspell.
He graduated from Royerton High School in 1951 where he stood out in athletics, particularly Basketball. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Army. He completed basic training at Camp Chafee, Arkansas, and served as a MARS Radio Operator. Upon returning home he owned and ran multiple businesses including the National Illumination and Contract Cleaning. He was a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he held the Melchizedek Priesthood and received multiple additional callings.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife JoAnn (Brown) Claspell - to whom he was eternally sealed; his brothers James, Ogal, and Paul; his sister Berdina Tirey-Lynch, Wiladean King, Mary Derringer, and Naomi Ruth Claspell.
He is survived by his sisters; Mildred Ridge of Muncie and Reba Burgess of Columbus, Ohio; his brother Charles of Muncie; his daughters Malinda Kirby of Muncie, Tina Lunsford of Greencastle, and Jonna Ellison of New Castle; his sons Michael Claspell of St. George, Utah, Curtis Claspell of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Joseph Claspell of Denver, Colorado. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and his close friend Michael Dunn.
Memorial services will be held on January 20, 2024, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 4800 Robinwood 47304. Service will start at 11:00 a.m. Burial at Tomlinson Cemetery will follow immediately after.
