Johnetta Leigh Smith, 67, passed away at IU Ball Memorial Hospital on March 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Johnetta was born on September 3, 1958, the daughter of Delbert and Norma (Bonshire) Killion in Frankfort, Kentucky.
Following graduation from high school, Johnetta dedicated her life to taking care of the love of her life, her husband Chris, and their children. She was a pure, authentic, and caring woman who never hesitated to help any person in need. She was a mom to everyone and was even known to take in homeless people to help them get back on their feet.
She was known for her cooking. No one left the house hungry, and she specialized in old-fashioned comfort foods, like Shepherd's Pie, fried chicken, and delicious hamburgers, all made in her cast-iron skillet.
Johnetta is survived by her husband of forty-three years, Christopher R. Smith, her three children, Amanda Quire Christian , Holly Martineau (Paul), and DeWayne R. Quire Jr, grandchildren, Kanes, AnnaBella, Avi, Codi, Kailey, Kody, Ethan, Eliza, and Avery. In addition, she leaves behind her sister, Wanda Hensley, a brother, Larry Bonshire, several siblings in other states, and many, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Norma, a niece, Danielle Watson, her beloved pet, Zayley, and Bob and Joan Smith.
Johnetta will be cremated, with Parson Mortuary Cremation Center handling the arrangements.
