It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Joseph “Joey” Vance, a beloved Son, Brother, and Father. Joey was born Dec. 14, 1982, in Muncie Indiana to Tracey Vance Timmons and Charles Vance Jr. Joey passed of natural causes in our mother's home on Oct. 30, 2023, in Yorktown Indiana. As his younger sister, I had the privilege of witnessing Joey's journey through life, filled with both struggles and triumphs.
Joey's life was not without its challenges, but in August 2022, he made a courageous decision to take back control and prioritize his sobriety. This marked a turning point for him, as he became devoted to his own well-being and to the love he shared with those around him. Through his own experiences and battles, Joey discovered his purpose in life – to use his story and struggles to make a positive impact on others.
His dream was to become an addictions counselor, providing a safe space for individuals seeking sobriety and saving lives through his guidance. Joey worked tirelessly to become the man he was proud to be, embracing his journey of recovery and using it as a source of inspiration for others.
Joey's love for his family was immeasurable. He cherished the moments spent together, always willing to lend a helping hand whenever he could. His infectious belly laugh brought joy to our lives, and he had a knack for making people laugh with his stories and sense of humor. Joey found solace in music and enjoyed sharing his favorite songs with those around him.
One of his favorite pastimes was going fishing with his cousins and other family members. These moments allowed him to connect with nature and create lasting memories filled with laughter and camaraderie. He loved football, movies, and family get-togethers.
Joey's untimely departure has left a void in our hearts, but his legacy will continue to live on. His determination, resilience, and unwavering love will forever inspire us. We will remember Joey as a beacon of hope, a man who found strength in his own battles and used it to uplift others.
May his soul find eternal peace, and may we honor his memory by continuing to support and uplift those who are fighting their own battles. Rest in peace, my dear brother. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
