Judith A. Brown, 83, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at her Muncie, Indiana residence, surrounded by her loving family. Judy was born on April 9, 1942, in Muncie, the daughter of Lora and Helen Monroe.
Judy graduated from Albany High School and then went on to obtain a degree from Business College. She worked at Southview and Lincoln schools in Muncie as a math and reading tutor. In 1962, Judy met the love of her life, Shelly Brown. Shelly was working at a service station in south Muncie and Judy and her friend would stop in and buy one or two gallons of gas at a time. She would drive around and come back to get a couple more gallons of gas. It is believed that she did this as an excuse to see the man who turned out to be her future husband, and they were married for sixty-three years.
Judy was one of thirteen children and was the oldest. She was the caregiver for most of her younger siblings. She loved to care for people and animals. She was known for walking her neighborhood and feeding all of her neighbors’ dogs, and they all loved her. She could be seen in her swing at her home with a squirrel sitting with her that she had befriended. It is an understatement to say that Judy loved animals.
She is survived by her husband, Shelly Brown, children, Scott Brown (Christine), two grandsons, Stevie Hahn, and Rick Frey. In addition, she leaves behind siblings, Bob Monroe, Jack Monroe, Donnie Monroe, Danny Monroe, Debbie Monroe, Lora Wilhelms, and Lu Van Horn.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Lauri Perry, as well as siblings Mike Monroe, Tony Haden, Connie Murphy, Rachel Monroe, and Vickie Jager.
Per Judy’s wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no formal services. Parson Mortuary Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.
