Kathleen B. Flook Obituary

Kathleen Belle (Farr) Flook, 78, died on February 4, 2026, in Muncie after an extended illness. She was born on October 29, 1947, at Ball Memorial Hospital, the daughter of Wilma and Luther Farr.

Kathie was raised in Congerville on Muncie’s southside and attended Garfield Elementary and Wilson Middle School. A 1965 graduate of South Side High School, she went on to Ball State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1969 and a master of Arts in American History in 1970. She completed her student teaching at Muncie Central High School.

After graduation, she taught history and Spanish for four years at Peru High School before returning to Muncie. She later taught 6th grade at St. Mary Middle School (now St. Michael) and at Union High School in Modoc, Indiana. Kathie was wicked smart, fluent in Spanish, an avid reader of history, and a staunch Anglophile. She could list, from memory, the line of British monarchs from William I to Charles III and was a fierce defender of Richard III. She loved the Kennedys. In her spare time, she wrote and embroidered. Her favorite pastime was watching old films, often tuning in to marathons on Turner Classic Movies.

She was also a devout Roman Catholic, having converted to the faith as a teenager. She attended the Newman Center and St. Lawrence Catholic Church in her youth and was a parishioner of St. Mary in Muncie. She prayed the rosary daily and was devoted to Saint Teresa of Ávila.

Surviving are her three children and their spouses: Emily and Kris Cullen (Muncie), Chris Flook and Kourtney McCauliff (Muncie), and Erin and Kevin Schmitt (Linden); three grandchildren: Kaitlyn “Beanie” Cullen (Chicago), and Connor and Archer Schmitt; brother-in-law James Savage; and nephew and niece James and Dawn Savage.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilma (Burton) and Luther Farr, her sister Patricia (Pat)Savage, and her beloved dogs Marley and Buddy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Mary Catholic Church in Muncie on Saturday, February 14, at 12:00 p.m., followed by a private interment at Elm Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call an hour before the service.
