Ken Rees Obituary

Ken was born January 24, 1957, to Kenneth and Joann (Gegenheimer) Rees in Hartford City, Indiana and he passed away December 1, 2022, peacefully at home in Muncie surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of ten years who took wonderful care of him, Jean (Mandabach) Rees. Stepsons Gabe (Nikki) Goens, Nicholas (Rachel) Mandabach, and Joseph Mandabach. Stepdaughter Anna (Lyndsey) Mettler and bonus daughters Haylee Cargill and Taylor Randol. Sister Tammy (Jeff) Green and brothers Cary (Linda) Rees and Craig (Minda) Rees. Six granddaughters Emma, Freya, Meredith, Penelope, Aurora, and Payslee.

He is preceded in death by his son Derick J. Rees, his parents Kenneth and Joann Rees, and his grandparents.

Ken was born and raised in Hartford City, Indiana. He had a paper route for three years and received recognition for outstanding service. At the age of 15, Ken was a member of a Christian bicycle club called DeCycles. He and a group of 56 other young men rode 10-speed bicycles from Hartford City to the Grand Canyon and took six weeks and the group set three world records including miles ridden in one day (well over 200 miles!) and speed coming down the mountain as they passed all the cars! Of course, the police were not happy about that one. The following year they rode to Niagara Falls and into Canada. While in Canada they participated in the wedding of one of their motorcycle leaders. Wherever they went, they also sang to the public and had all eyes on them as they sang at the Grand Canyon.

Ken had numerous jobs throughout his early years. He was a semi-truck driver for various companies for the last twelve years of his career. Ken enjoyed building model cars, woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters. He was an avid IU sports fan, Pacer fan, and Colts fan.

A memorial service will be December 17, 2022, at Sunnyside Church of God in New Castle, Indiana at 3:00 pm. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 before the service.
