Kyle Samuel Miller, 40, died at his home on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
Kyle was a very smart young man who loved to make people laugh. A K-12 graduate of Muncie Burris in 2002, Kyle was a two-sport athlete who played basketball and soccer. Also a musician, Kyle played tenor saxophone and was Burris Pep Band Director as a senior. Kyle enjoyed being part of the Burris Media Club. Along with his brother Adam, Kyle was a Riverside United Methodist Youth Group member.
After graduating, Kyle was a Daleville, Indiana, reserve police officer and worked at Ball State University as a traffic officer. Afterward, he worked at Muncie Indiana Transit System (MITS) for over fifteen years, most recently as Director of Transportation.
Kyle was a lifelong sports fan and enjoyed being part of the Burris sports family. He also spent many hours with friends playing games and cheering on his beloved Fighting Irish. Kyle will be greatly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and sweet pup Eliza.
Kyle is survived by his father Jerry (Barbara) Miller and mother Deborah (Jim) Houser of St. Augustine, as well as his brother Adam (Meghan) Miller and their daughter Chloe of Ypsilanti, and siblings Sarah Shideler (David Swindle), Ted Shideler, and John Shideler.
Also surviving are his grandmothers, Peggy Evans of Birmingham and Marilyn Swander. Kyle is also survived by several aunts and uncles, Karen Miller, Diane Dabbs, Darlene Self of Birmingham, Jan Swander of Fishers, David (Gail) Evans of Easley SC, Dave Swander (Rebecca) and Jeff Swander (Pam) of Columbia, SC, and many cousins.
Memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association or the Burris Athletic Department.
A celebration of Kyle’s life for friends and family will be held upstairs at the Yorktown American Legion, 2110 S Broadway on Saturday, March 16 from 2-5 pm.
Cremation services are entrusted to Parson Mortuary Cremation Center.
