Larry Lester Coates

Larry Lester Coates, 77, left this life, on Monday morning, September 18, 2023, at his residence following an extended illness.  He was born on September 26, 1945, in Muncie, the son of Clarence and Bertha (McDowell) Coates.

Larry attended Muncie Community Schools and later worked as a self-employed cartage driver for over 30 years prior to his retirement.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 19 of Muncie, Am-Vets, and the Eagles Lodge Erie #231.  Mr. Coates enjoyed helping people and hanging out with his friends at the Legion.

Survivors include one son, Larry Shane Coates (Cheryl), Muncie; two granddaughters Kristina Coates and Morgan Belcher (Justin), both of Muncie; two great-grandsons, Ezekiel Belcher and Zayden Belcher, both at home one sister, Carolyn Johnson (Daryl), Muncie; several nieces and nephews; best friend, Dennis Faulk, Albany, and many others.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, ImoJean Powell, Katherine Hunt, Doris Myers, and Marjorie Price; and one brother, Don Coates.

A gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 12:30 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. at Parson Mortuary.   Cremation will take place with the burial of cremated remains at a later date at Gardens of Memory Cemetery north of Muncie.  Parson Mortuary Cremation Center is entrusted with these arrangements.
