Larry Norman Taflinger Obituary

Larry Norman Talflinger, 85, passed away early Wednesday Morning, January 3, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his children.  He was born on April 13, 1938, in Muncie the son of William A. and Ruby (Beasley) Taflinger.


Larry graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1956, enlisted into the U.S. Navy at the end of the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in 1958.  He eventually married, Mildred Rose Harker Taflinger in 2001 and she preceded him in death in 2019.   Mr. Taflinger had worked for the U.S. Postal Service and eventually became an exam proctor for a total of 36 years before his retirement in 1995.  He was a past member of the Order of the Moose Lodge and was a member of the Delaware Lions Club for many years in the 1980s.  Mr. Taflinger was a former President of the Delaware County Fair Board. He was a member of Victory Temple Church where he was an Usher.   At one time he had attended River of Life Church as well.  Larry loved to spend time in Michigan with family and friends, fishing during the summer.   He was a card player and loved Poker and Blackjack.  He would watch any type of sports.


Survivors include his children, Gary Taflinger (Leann), South Bend, and Katina Taflinger Lopez (Milton), Franklin, IN; stepson, Melvin Harker (Karen), Ft. Wayne, IN; two grandsons, Josh Carrington (Olivia), and Andrew Taflinger (Ashley), both of Muncie; Great grandchildren, Evelyn, Oakley and Ranger Carrington.  His caregiver, Kimberly Sturgill; has several nieces and nephews.


Besides his wife of 10 years, Mildred, he is preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Gloria Taylor Yarbrough, Lucille Elwood, Patricia Gruwell, and Mary Turner; two brothers, William and Kenneth Taflinger and several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held at Parson Mortuary on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick Bowen officiating.  Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery north of Muncie.  Delaware County Honor Guard will render military honors.


Friends may call at Parson Mortuary on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service.
