On Friday, September 27, 2024, Lawrence Dean Turney Sr. (Age 80) of Yorktown, IN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.  His family rejoices with him as he has now joined Heaven with many of his loved ones who have gone before him.  He looked very forward to this reunion!  

Lawrence was born to Gilbert P. and Dorothy (Wood) Turney on June 14, 1944 in Muncie, Indiana.  He graduated from Muncie Central High School and later married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn (Upchurch) Turney on October 4, 1963 and they were married for nearly 54 years.  Together, they had two sons Reverend Lawrence (Larry) Turney Jr. and Kevin Turney.  As a family, they shared in many adventures of travel, but mostly to Gatlinburg, TN and Disney World in Orlando, FL.  As the family grew, Lawrence and Carolyn would still take their family on trips to the Smoky Mountains every spring.  Lawrence loved his family deeply.  He was also a very proud Union member and retired from Delco-Remy after over four decades.  After retiring, he loved to spend his time traveling, loving on his grandchildren and working in and around his yard and home.  Lawrence attended Avondale United Methodist Church for many years where he served as a song leader and several other roles.  Later in life, he attended church with his family and although he was not able to attend in person very often, he faithfully attended services online at NorthPoint Church in Muncie, Indiana.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Missy (Reese) Turney of Yorktown, four grandchildren; Lauren (Zach) Gidcumb of Yorktown, Evan (Carolyn) Turney of Mooresville, Aaron Turney of Yorktown and Hayle Turney of Yorktown, five great-grandchildren; Hunter Turney, Ellie Gidcumb, Kade Gidcumb, Carson Turney and Ben Gidcumb, as well as special friends; Angel Northcutt, Randy Duncan and Laura Lyons, and several nieces and nephews.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his siblings and his two sons.  

On Saturday, October 5, 2024, family and friends are invited to attend visitation from 11a-12p at Parson Mortuary (801 W. Adams St., Muncie, IN 47305).  A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 12p with Reverend Zach Gidcumb (NorthPoint Church) officiating.  A graveside service will take place following the service at Beech Grove Cemetery.
