Loren Kelley Sewell Obituary

Loren Kelley Sewell, 74, left this life Wednesday afternoon, February 21, 2024, at the Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on December 30, 1949, in Portland, Indiana the son of Kelley and Virginia (Main) Sewell. Loren graduated from Wappahani High School in 1969 and later enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and honorably served from 1970-1972. He participated in two different Apollo Splash downs in 70’ and 71’. Eventually, he married the love of his life, Carolyn (Couch) Sewell on October 12, 1972, and she survives. Mr. Sewell had retired from Fisher-Body automotive metal fabricators for General Motors after working 30 years before his retirement in 2010. He was a member of the Old Town Hill Baptist Church where he served on the disaster team that would go to various disaster sites to aid the people who were victims. He and his wife also taught in the nursery class. The family recently started attending Riverview Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Sewell enjoyed fishing, kayaking with his daughter every Tuesday without fail, woodworking, and making various projects come to life for his family members and friends. Loren treasured being with his family and was known to be a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Besides his wife of 51 years, Carolyn, he is survived by two daughters, Melissa Sewell, Selma and Lori Guffey (Tommy), Muncie; seven grandchildren, Jason, Kellie, Matthew (Keyra), Trenton, Cody, Cierra, Kyle and Kelsey; two + one grandchildren, Braxton and Bellamie; two brothers, Ronald Sewell (Carolyn), Muncie and Tom Sewell (Krista), Parker City; one sister-in-law, Kathy Sewell, Muncie; several nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death: one sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Ben Martin, and one brother, Reginald Sewell. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Pastor Kelley Sewell officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Delaware County Honor Guard. Parson Mortuary is entrusted with these arrangements.
