Louis C. Pippin Obituary

Louis C. Pippin, husband, father, businessman and Civic Leader, passed away on December 5 at the age of 88.  A lifelong resident of Delaware County, Louie graduated from Eaton High School where he met his wife of nearly 61 years, Sandra, from rival DeSoto High School.  Louie served his country honorably in the US Army from 1954 to 1957.  He spent most of his service in Germany, which is where he and Sandra were married.

After his military service, Louie joined General GMC Truck Sales as a “parts man” in 1958 where he worked until 1974.  Never one to let grass grow under his feet, Louie began farming in 1967.  In 1974 he purchased the International Harvester dealership in Gaston.  He and Sandra grew Pippin Equipment to not only sell farm equipment, but his first love, snowmobiles, as he became the only Arctic Cat and Ski-Doo dealer in the area. Changing careers in 1981, Louie ventured into the real estate and appraisal business. He started Pippin Realty in 1985 and then earned his CRA Designation and started Pippin Appraisal Services. He was planning on officially retiring in 2024.

Louie was active in the community and always bumped into a friend wherever he went.  He was President of the Noon Optimist Club, Optimist of the Year, and active in the International Lions Club.  A lover of old cars and trucks, Louie was a member of the Central Indiana Old Car Club since 1972, serving as President many times. He was active in the national Plymouth Club, and the American Truck Club. He loved to organize and take old car tours, including a coast-to-coast Route 66 tour in his 54 Plymouth.   Louie was a devoted member of DeSoto United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and served on nearly every administrative committee.

He is survived by his three daughters, Cindy Sollars (Randy), Donna Scheid (Walt), and Brenda Vance (Brian); five grandchildren, Jonathan Lamb (Mollee), Adam Scheid (Angi), Amanda Bender (Chris), Rachel Vance (Jessica,) and Daniel Vance; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings Virginia, Phyllis, Susie, and Jim. He is also survived by his dear friend, Sue Long.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sandra, his parents, Walter and Pauline, and sister Louise.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Parson Mortuary, 801 W Adams Street.  Friends may call from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at DeSoto United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 16, 2023.  Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, DeSoto, Indiana.
