Maxine Young Obituary

Maxine Young, 93, of Muncie, Indiana, passed away on March 7, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 25, 1932, in Farmers, Kentucky, to George and Alba (Cook) Herron.

Maxine lived a life full of adventure, faith, and love for her family. She enjoyed traveling and visited many places including Alaska, Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee, the Wisconsin Dells, Hawaii, and parts of Europe including Germany, France, and Italy. At the remarkable age of 91, Maxine zip-lined across the Royal Gorge in Colorado, becoming the oldest woman in the United States known to have accomplished this.

She loved many hobbies and pastimes including raising chickens, bowling in a women’s league in Muncie, playing euchre and solitaire, gardening, and tending to her beautiful flowers. Maxine also enjoyed cross-stitching, camping and boating in Madison, Indiana, and fishing, which she loved dearly. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Maxine was very active in her church, First Brethren Church in Oakville, Indiana. Her faith was important to her, and she even participated in a mission trip to Haiti through her church.

She is survived by her grandchildren: Tracy Oxley (Ken), Amy Fannin, Bryan Shaw, and Kristy Shaw; her son-in-law Craig Hopeseker; great-grandchildren: Bryce Oxley (Jacie), Kyle Oxley (Katilyn), Taylan Oxley (Iven Stewart), and Ella Krieg (Ryan); great-great-grandchildren: Louie Oxley, Maeve Oxley, Isla Stewart, Twyla Stewart, and Evelyn Krieg; as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She also leaves behind Kenny Fannin, who was considered a special member of the family and like a son to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Alba Herron; her husband, Dan Young; her daughters, Pamela Fannin and Debbie Shaw (Ed); her son, Steve Young; her sister, Gerri Bailey (Homer); her brother, George Herron Jr. (JoAnn); and her great-great-grandson, Otto Oxley.
