Michael Kirkwood Obituary

Michael Andrew Kirkwood, beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by the memories and love of those who knew him best. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Audrey Kirkwood, whom he missed dearly, and his treasured sister-in-law, Lonna Kirkwood.

Born in Oak Park, IL, on October 18, 1964, and raised in Muncie, IN, Michael graduated from Burris Laboratory School as a member of the Class of 1983. He continued his education at the University of Notre Dame before graduating from DePauw University. Throughout his life, Michael pursued opportunities that led him to live and work in Florida, Arizona, California, New York, Kentucky, and Indiana, where he formed lasting friendships and touched many lives through his kindness, intelligence, and sense of humor. An entrepreneur at heart, he also owned and operated KPPM.

Michael will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, dedication to his work, and deep connection to family and friends. No matter where life took him, he maintained strong ties to those he loved.

He is survived by his siblings, Matthew (Shalon) Kirkwood, Martin Kirkwood, Stacey (Dave) Robinson, and Jaimie Kirkwood. Michael especially relished the role of uncle, bringing humor, adventure, and unforgettable memories to his family. His beloved nieces and nephews include McKhi Kirkwood and Mattea Kirkwood; McKenna (Jacob) Schaefer, Keegan Kirkwood, and Garren Kirkwood; Catherine (Jared) Risk, Patrick Smith (fiancée Emma), Erin Smith, and Laura (Andrew) Edgington; and Sophie (Tommy Rohr), Hannah, Eli (fiancée Tashia), Zoe, and Abraham Seward.

He also cherished his great-niece and great-nephews, including Jett Danielson, Beau and Lainey Risk, and two more on the way, who sadly will never have the pleasure of knowing they were his favorite.

Michael also leaves behind many dear cousins and lifelong friends, especially Jeffrey Wahr and Johnnie Wahr, Heather Kontos, Rebecca Watson, Darcie Fudoli, and Erin Watson-Heerdt, all of whom held a special place in his heart, as well as Toby, Michael’s faithful canine companion.

Michael’s life was a journey marked by curiosity, resilience, and compassion. He enjoyed fishing, biking, walking, working out, and was an avid reader. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at Parson Mortuary, 801 W. Adams, Muncie, on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 12:00 PM.  Friends may call on the family from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.  A private family burial will follow.
