Mildred Crutcher Obituary

On Saturday, February 10, 2024, Mildred Svea (Koons) Crutcher earned her angel wings.  She was surrounded by her loving daughter Jill, son-in-law Jay, and grandchildren Jaycie and Jentry.  Known to many as Boots, Mom, Grandma, and Nana, she loved her family more than anything.

Born on January 2, 1938, to Wilbur J. Koons and Bertha Ethel (Cross) Koons in Muncie, Indiana.  Boots was the youngest child of ten.  She attended Muncie schools.

In 1954, she met Ray Lee Crutcher, who had just returned from the service.  He was at his grandmother’s house, who lived on the corner from the street she lived on.  While she was walking home from school, he asked her to stop and talk to him for a little bit.  She told him if he wanted to talk, he would have to come down to her house to talk.  They met that Friday, went out the next Friday, and unbeknownst to her mother, were married the next Friday.  They raised three girls and were married until Ray’s death on March 1, 2021.  While Ray was afflicted with dementia, Boots stayed by his side and took care of him.  She was a caregiver through and through in her life.

Boots, alongside Ray, worked in the family business, Crutcher’s upholstery, for 35 years until their retirement.

Boots loved her grandchildren with her whole heart and was one of the kindest and best grandmas ever.  She worried about her children and grandchildren and checked in with all of them almost every day to make sure they were doing well.  She was incredibly loving when it came to her family.

Boots leaves to treasure her memory three daughters Jill Keesling (Jay), Ridgeville, Judy Reese (Bill), Parker City, and Sandi Frizzell (Dave), Pendleton; four grandchildren who called her grandma; Kandi, Kara, Roy, and Travis; two grandchildren who called her Nana; Jaycie and Jentry; three great-grandchildren; Dakota, Matthew, and Kasey; and one great, great-granddaughter; Elenor.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ray, her parents, her siblings, and a grandson whom she loved very much, Taylor Reese.

She was loved so much by so many and will be missed even more by them.

I, her daughter Jill, want to thank Jaycie, Jentry, Kandi, and Kara for always checking on her and spending time with her as much as they could.  Talking or seeing each of you always made her day.  She cherished that time with you all more than you could ever know and loved all of you so much.

Mom, I will love you forever, until we meet again. -Jill

(Per Boot’s request, no services will be held.  A private celebration of life is planned for a later date.)
