Mildred Duncan, 91
Muncie- Mildred Duncan (Wildwood Flower), 91, Muncie, passed away Wednesday afternoon,
January 13 th , 2021 following an extended illness. She was surrounded by family who she loved
dearly.
She was born in Beattyville, Kentucky, February 24 th , 1929, the daughter of Agnes
Charles Barrett and Joseph Barrett. She attended a one room school and was able to finish third
grade before having to leave to help her mother at home with raising her 9 siblings. At age 11,
her family moved to Stearns, Kentucky where she later met the love of her life Paul Duncan.
They then married on April 26 th , 1947. The two of them made their home in Muncie, Indiana in
1954. They never forgot their heritage and the way they were raised.
At the age of 19, Mildred gave her heart to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She then
joined East Appletree united Baptist Church in Revelo, Kentucky. She was a member there until
she moved to Muncie where she then became a charter Member of Westside united Baptist
Church. She was part of the organization of the church on January 19 th , 1957. Mildred loved her
church and enjoyed participating in singing in the Choir.
Mildred loved life. She loved her family gatherings and singing praises to the Lord. One
of Mildred’s greatest hobbies was making people laugh. There were very few people she met
that didn’t fall in love with her personality. She touched the lives of many people with her
testimony and with the way she lived her life for the Lord.
Mildred was survived by her two daughters Brenda Bowman and her husband Jim,
Muncie, and Deliah Garrett and her husband Joe, Anderson. Four Grandchildren Meagan Mast
and her husband Ryan, Dwain Garrett and his wife Heather, Caleb Garrett and his wife Alicia,
and Olivia Bowman. Two Great-Grandchildren Melody Grace and Annalyse Rose Garrett. Also,
three children that she considered her Grandchildren. Myia Finefrock, Gary Redic and Greg
Redic.
Mildred was proceeded in death by her beloved husband Paul Duncan, her parents Joe
and Agnes Barrett, her brothers Joseph, Raymond, Albert and J.D. Sisters Mable Hammond,
Helen Peters, Rosemary Fisher, Jeanie Daniels and Billie Martin. Also, two Great-Grandchildren
Remi Jo Mast and Oaklyn Leigh Mast.
Our loss is Heavens eternal gain.
Services will be held for Mildred on Monday January, 18 th , 2021 at 1pm at Westside
United Baptist Church by Bobby Jewell. Burial will follow at Tomlinson Cemetery. Friends may
call at the church, 3201 W. Cornbread Rd. from 11am to 1pm.
