Mildred Joan (Thompson) Sexton

Mildred Joan (Thompson) Sexton, 89, passed away on September 7, 2023, at Indiana University Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.  Mildred was born on May 13, 1934, the daughter of Charles and Marguerite (Clevenger) Thompson. 

Mildred graduated from Muncie Central High School and went on to work as a food service manager at various locations, including Ball Hospital, the Delaware County Home and lastly for Headstart.  She married Winifred Sexton and ran the Cabbage Patch plant nursery at home, all while raising three children.

Mildred was extremely active in her community of Farmland, Indiana.  She created and supported the Farmland Food Pantry, was a member of the Farmland Lions Club, as well a past President of the club, and attended Farmland Friends Church.  She loved flowers and loved helping and volunteering to help those in need.  She had a caring and giving soul.

Mildred is survived by her three children, Jeffrey Sexton, wife Barbara, Cindy Heckman, husband Rev. John Heckman, and one daughter-in-law, Rhonda Sexton, and one sister Connie Thompson-Williams.  She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, as well as beloved nieces, nephews and family members

She was preceded in death by her husband, Winifred Sexton, son David Sexton, and one grandson, Jacob Sexton, as well as many cherished family members.

Services will be held at Parson Mortuary, 801 W. Adams St. Muncie, Indiana, 47305, on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 1:00 PM.  Friends may call at the mortuary from 12:00 PM until the time of the service.  Burial will follow at the Yorktown, Municipal Cemetery
