Peter Wayne Boykin

Peter Wayne Boykin, 78, Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.  He was born November 29, 1942 in New Castle, Indiana the son of the late William “Pete” and Rosemary (Steining) Boykin. 

Peter attended school at St Anne’s in New Castle, Mt. Summit Jr/Sr High School and was a 1962 graduate of Shortridge High School in Indianapolis.  After graduating high school, he attended Indiana University where he earned his Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts and Master’s Degree.  While attending college Peter joined the United States Navy Reserve in June of 1964 and served his country with honor until his retirement from the Navy in January of 1990.  While serving his country Peter was a Metrologist for the State of Indiana for over thirty years.  He was a very active and dedicated member of St. Luke Catholic Church; Indianapolis and he was also a member of Naptown & White River Model Rail Road Club.   

He is survived by his stepbrother, Jack Gebhart, (wife-Darlene); several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rosemary Boykin.

Funeral Mass will be at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 820 E. Charles St., Muncie at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2021 with Father Eric Underwood officiating.  Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery.  Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Delaware County Honor Guard.

Calling will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. on Saturday until the time of service.
