Phillip Jay Haney Obituary

Phillip Jay Haney, 89, passed away at his Selma, Indiana, home on July 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.  Phillip was born on November 19, 1935, in Muncie, Indiana, the son of Harry Herbert and Meribah (Anderson) Haney.

Following graduation from Selma High School, he worked for General Motors for over thirty years.  He married the love of his life, Luran Haney, and they were married for forty-nine years, eleven months, and two weeks before her passing in 2007.  After retiring from GM, Phillip worked for Norms Paint and Cardinal Hills Golf Course.

Phillip was active in his Selma community.  He was instrumental in bringing Little League Baseball to the town in the late sixties and early seventies.  Additionally, he was on the Selma Town Board and the Liberty Regional Waste District from 1978 until 1996.

Phillip enjoyed woodworking, golfing, serving his community, working in the garden, and completing his “Honey Do” list for his wife.  However, his biggest source of joy was family.  He loved it when the family got together, and he could spend time with them.  He had a special kind of love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a love that only a grandfather could know.

He leaves behind his two sons, Brad Haney (Jennifer), and Greg Haney (Jane); grandchildren, Jason (Steph), Brooke (Caleb), Melissa, Katie (Layne), Kyla, and Jake (Cheyenne); great-grandchildren, Drew, Mayamiko, Caydence, Gio, Makayla, Kyliee, Lilly, and Rory.  In addition, he is survived by a brother, Hal Haney, sisters-in-law, Lorraine Davis, Sherry Enterkin, and Janet Haney, a special friend, Delores Williams, and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Luran, a son, Rob Haney, siblings, Helen Hunt (Lee), Betty Young (John L.), Ed Haney (Rosalie), Joe Haney (Pat), Beverly Jones (Gordon), Robert Haney (Sue), Doris Cowgill (Ross), sister-in-law, Rhoda Haney, and brothers-in-law, Ed Enterkin, and Earl Davis.

Per Phillip’s wishes, he will be cremated with no funeral services.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date, to be announced by the family.

The family would like to thank all those who took care of Phillip, including Rhonda Workman, AKA “Martha,” Terry Wilson, Kim Wagner, and Southern Care Hospice, especially Rita, Patty, and Bradley J.
