R. David Montross, 62, passed away at IU Ball Memorial Hospital, in Muncie, Indiana, on June 29, 2025. He was born in Muncie, Indiana on July 17, 1962, the son of James Montross and Christina (Gabel) Phillips.
Following graduation from Muncie Southside High School, joined the United States Army. He was a member of the 82 Airborne and was a parachuter and a very proud veteran. David drove trucks for over twenty years, working for several companies before becoming an owner operator. David loved baseball and softball. He was considered one of the best softball players in Muncie and the surrounding areas during the 1980’s. He also loved playing the guitar and was in a local band called Catch-22, until his health forced him to retire. He also loved, raised and owned horses.
David was a man of God that would give another the shoes off of his feet to help. He was one of the kindest men you will ever meet. He was married to his wife Debra for thirty-four years and had a love for his kids and grandkids that could never be doubted. He was an incredible provider to his family that would always put their needs before his.
Those left behind to cherish his memories include his wife, Debra (Williams) Montross, son, James David Montross, Hartford City, Indiana, daughter, Christina Montross (Jonathan Mann), Greensburg, Indiana, grandson, Caiden Mann, sisters, Diana Walker, Hartford City, Indiana, Sunda McIver, Arkansas, and brother Albert (Nick) Nickerson, Alexandria, Indiana.
