Sandra Buffalo Obituary

With our hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we bid farewell to Sandra June Buffalo, a remarkable woman who lived her 80 years with love, laughter, and generosity. She was
surrounded by family as she entered Heaven’s eternal garden on March 23, 2026.

Sandy was born in Muncie, Indiana, on November 13, 1945, to Dolores and Jack Johnson. She attended Muncie Central High School until transferring to Muncie Southside High School in the fall of 1962. She remained a “Bearcat” when she graduated from Southside in the Spring of 1963. She was employed at Lifetouch Prestige Portraits for 20+ years and made many dear friends during that time.

On December 18, 1982, Sandy and John Buffalo wed in a private ceremony with close family. They found a true kind of love within each other; the kind that is honest and completely accepts the other person for who they are. They danced seamlessly together whenever a good song came on. They grew a garden and canned green beans together every year. He drove whenever
they traveled because she couldn’t stand to fly. She laughed at his silly antics, and he adored her bold personality. They were there for each other in every step of life, and along the way, they
grew a family that loves unconditionally.

Sandy was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, and mother whose love reached past family bonds and touched the lives of everyone. She was a Mother to many, as family, friends, and neighborhood kids found comfort in her home and in her heart. She was infinitely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; from crawling to first steps, jumping in the pool without floaties, playing baseball or volleyball, competing in wrestling or gymnastics, performing in a play, earning a degree, serving in the military, and everything else in between. She celebrated with absolute joy and adoration.

She enjoyed the beautiful, meaningful things in life. As such, spending time with her grandchildren was pure happiness. She attended dance recitals, wrestling meets, art shows, and graduations every chance she had. She enjoyed picking out flowers to plant around the house, watching hummingbirds gather at feeders over the summer, and bringing family together for birthdays, holidays, and reunions. She and John would call loved ones to sing to them “Happy Birthday,” which became an annual tradition. She watched Colts football games, Sci Fi shows, and recently found a love for British crime mysteries. She would laugh while sharing a funny story, and her smile would light up the room. She could dance to any song and knew every Eagles’ lyric by heart. She loved when the world came back to life in the Spring. She lived life to the fullest and never held anyone back from living their own. She was a fierce Matriarch of our family who exuded resilience and strength until the very end, with honesty and without fear of speaking her mind. Her legacy, her love, and her spirit will forever bloom within our hearts.

A special thank you to her granddaughter, Jade “Rosebud” Nottingham, for giving around-the-clock care these past few weeks.

Sandy is survived by her loving children, DeDe Slaven (Robin), Karen Digman, William Digman, Kathy Digman, Kevin Digman (Sandy), Keith Digman, and Christina Buffalo-Thornton (Gabe); her
sisters, Pam Fair (Joe) and Debby Murray; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her cat, Daisy May.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dolores Miller and Jack Johnson; stepfather, Ladore “Stuff” Miller; stepmother, Monzelle Johnson; sister, Judy Miller; husband, John Buffalo; son, Baby John Buffalo; bonus son, Chad Buffalo; and a special cousin and friend, Penny Scroggins.
