Thomas (Tom) Harreld Hamaker, Sr., 78, of Muncie, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022, after a brief illness. Thomas was born March 29, 1944, in Marion, Indiana, and the son of the late Harreld and Martha (Peterson) Hamaker.
He moved to Muncie in 1970 and worked for Interstate Trucking Company as an over-the-road truck driver. After retiring (or “semi” doing so) he was a doorman, cook, and bouncer at the Dream Club. And later would become the doorman at the Heorot Pub & Draught House before “officially” retiring.
Thomas enjoyed his sports, both cheering, and coaching. He loved to cook out, spending time with family and friends along with his grandchildren and greats. He truly adored all his grands and greats. Actually “papaw” let them get away with pretty much anything (we all know it’s the truth)! He was very special to them all!
He is survived by his children, Thomas Jr. Hamaker (Dawn), Cher Kelley, Joshua Hamaker (Marie) and Brandi Traver. His grandchildren Chelsey, Megan, Kylee, Darian, Lauren, Madi, Zedalee, and Carolina. And great-grandchildren Lailah, Jersi, Gracie, Hunter, Darryl, Keith Jr., and Trey. Along with his sisters Judie McDowell, Debbie Ruth (Dennis), and brothers Jim Hamaker (Linda), Mike Hamaker, Tim Hamaker, and Mark Hamaker (Linda). He was also preceded in death by a sister, Becky Suter, a brother, Delbert Hamaker, and two great-grandchildren, Ariel and Leiland.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Parson Mortuary and Cremation Center. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the service beginning at 1 p.m.
