Tommie Lee Humbert Sr, 82, of Muncie, Indiana passed away on November 16, 2025, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loved ones.
He was a logger working in the woods, up until his death. He was happiest spending time with family, and he adored his granddaughters and great-granddaughters. He loved life, his family, IU Basketball, the Indiana Pacers and horse pulling. He had an old-time soul. If he liked you, you knew it and if he didn’t like you, he would tell you. He had a heart of gold when it came to old people, kids and dogs. He had many names: Dad, Daddy, Grandpa, Thomas Cat, Little man and he was the family’s Superman. He was a
tough, hardworking, strong-willed man. The values he instilled in his kids and granddaughters were remarkable. His family will live on, clinging to the many, many wonderful memories that were made.
Logging and horses were in his bloodline. He won the Indiana State fair with his heavy weight horses in 1982, 1983, and 2000. He also won the World championship Heavy weight horse pull in: 1982, 1983, and 1984.
On June 25, 2022, he was inducted into the Michigan horse pulling hall of fame. On September 23, 2025, he won the National Championship Heavy weight horse pull at Hillsdale Michigan. He was also awarded the Best Driver award.
He always said: It’s a family thing. We’ve got friends from all over the world. One of his favorite quotes was: If you can pay your bills and got friends, you’re the richest guy in the world.
