Virgil “Duane” Murray, 74, went to be with his Lord on February 15, 2021.  He was born on February 13, 1947 in Penntown, Indiana.  He resided most of his life in Delaware County, Indiana.  Duane was well known for his outstanding musical talent.  He entertained at a variety of venues including The Grand Ole Opry.  His phenomenal guitar skills and exemplary voice allowed him to share the stage with numerous celebrities including The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Porter Wagoner, Kitty Wells, Don Williams and many more.  Always happy-go-lucky with a joyful heart, he never knew a stranger.  He was a free spirit who loved to have fun and make people smile.  Duane was truly one of a kind with a charismatic personality who lived life to the fullest.  He cherished faith, family and friends while making memories, sharing stories, singing, composing and playing various genres of music.  He often worked in autobody repair and mechanics.  He liked old cars, motorcycles, horses, guitars and everything with sentimental value.  During his later years, he became the pastor of The Church of God Full Gospel in Muncie, Indiana and loved to spread God’s word through music and fellowship.

Survivors include six children, Virjeanna Murray-Maddox of Middletown, Matthew Murray of Greenville, Ohio, Dawn Murray-Hatfield of Gettysburg, Ohio, Virgil D. Murray II of Anderson, Daniel Murray of Daleville and Lindsey Murray of Middletown; eight grandchildren, Jason Abbott, Kiely Mundell, Marcella Marlatt, Talynn Murray, Zaelynn Murray, Beckham Murray, Eli Caldwell, and AnnaLeah Caldwell; four great grandchildren, Logan Abbott, Aaliyah Abbott, Bristol Burris, and Beckham Burris; two brothers, Chuck (wife Sarah) Murray of Muncie and Everett Murray of Somerset, KY; two sisters, Rosetta Weekly of Venice, FL and Shirley Cline of Yorktown; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife Lisa (Writtenhouse) Murray; his parents Rev. Chester and Bertha (Taylor) Murray; three brothers, Rev. John Murray, Rev. Don Murray and Harlan Murray and great grandchild Wyatt Jase Abbott; special friend , Brenda Stanley.

A memorial service will be Feb. 28, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the Church of God Full Gospel 4013 W. 30th St. Muncie, IN 47302.   Visitation at the church 12:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M.

Contributions and flowers may be sent to the church on Feb. 27, 2021 where someone will be there to receive them between 12:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M.

A celebration of his life will also be held on February 28, 2021 starting at 5:00 P.M. at The American Legion located at 14708 W. 6th St. Daleville, IN. (Musicians are welcome to bring their instruments).
