Donna R. Mavis, 85, died Monday at the Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a long illness. She was a native of Dearborn County and grew up in Manchester.
Donna had lived in Albany for 61 years, and taught at Albany Elementary School. She also owned The Flower Box.
She received her bachelors and master’s degrees from Ball State, and was a life member of Alpha Omicron Pi. She also belonged to the Albany Tri Kappa chapter and Albany United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Delos Hutcheson and her mother, Leverne Hutcheson Molter; her grandmother who raised her, Edna Huffman and her husband, Don Mavis.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Mavis, Albany, and Bradley (April) Mavis, Lakeland, FL; five grandchildren, Amanda (Skyler) Miller, Muncie, and Martin (Savannah Dickison) Mavis, Shelbyville, who was raised by Donna; Kaleigh (Caleb) Craft, Fort Steward, GA, Jacob (Amber Aldridge) Mavis, Lakeland, Florida and Alyssa (Demarcus Smith) Mavis, Warner Robins, GA; and six great-granddaughters, Mia, Jessica, Elizabeth, Alayna, Samantha and Aspyn.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 5 p.m. Friday April 9, at Albany United Methodist Church. There will be no calling.
