Lisa Mitchell Obituary

Lisa Lynn Mitchell passed away unexpectedly on June 1, 2023, from a sudden illness.  She was born on 3/15/1966 in Lafayette, IN to Leland A. Chupp Jr. and Barbara T. Buckles, both of whom preceded her in death.  She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Ronald S. Mitchell of Muncie, IN, her two twin brothers: Rodney L. Chupp of Linden, IN, and Brian J. Chupp of Lafayette, IN, and her half-brother Samuel W. Buckles II of Lafayette, IN., her niece Meagan Chupp and nephew Tyler Chupp, as well as her step-father Samuel W., Buckles I.

After graduating from Rossville High School in 1984 she joined the banking industry and worked for Lafayette Bank and Trust and Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union where she developed a knack for accounting.  As a result, she enrolled in Ivy Tech State College where she graduated from in 2002, received the Dean’s Award for the Accounting program, and was a member of the All-Indiana Academic Team.  She continued her scholastic endeavors at Ball State University where she was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma, and Sigma Lota Epsilon honor societies.  She graduated at the top of her class, receiving her Bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2005.  She was employed by a CPA firm and then went on to work for the Defense Finance Accounting Services for the Department of Defense where she served as an accountant, receiving numerous awards for her work there, until her retirement this year.

Lisa loved to cook even as a young child and was known for her holiday meals which she enjoyed preparing for her family and friends.  One of her specialties was her spaghetti sauce which she made from scratch, canned, and gave as gifts to numerous loved ones.  She loved to garden, especially tomatoes enjoyed traveling, and was an avid fan of major league baseball, being especially fond of the Cincinnati Reds.  Lisa was known for her kind and generous spirit and giving nature and thrived on helping others in any way she could.

Cremation has been chosen with a private family gathering at a later date.  Parson Mortuary Cremation Center is entrusted with these arrangements.
