Mary E. Mathew, 95, passed away Wednesday morning April 28, 2021 at the Bethel Health and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. She was born on September 22, 1925 in Selma the daughter of James and Ada Mae (Straub) Walker.
Mary graduated from DeSoto High School in 1943 and later married the love of her life Leland Guy Mathew on May 9, 1947 in Muncie and he survives. Mrs. Mathew had worked for J.C. Penny during World War II. She was a homemaker for most of her working life. Mary was an avid flower gardener and enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and cross word puzzles but mostly, she had dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides her husband of 74 years, Leland, she is survived by two daughters, Diane Harvey (Jerry), Brooksville, Florida and Linda Pennycuff (Danny), Yorktown; one son, Gary Mathew, (companion- Elaine Orr) Muncie; three grandchildren, Dustin Carpenter (Wendy), Muncie, Rhett Carpenter (Christy), Bluffton and Andrew Pennycuff, Yorktown; one granddaughter-in-law, Deanna Mathew, Indianapolis; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Paul Walker (Darlene), DeSoto; several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Clarence Walker, James Walker, Jr. and Donald Walker; two sisters, Velma Wright, Margaret Price; one daughter-in-law, Linda Mathew; one grandson, Chad Mathew in 2020.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 30, 2021, 10:00 A.M. at Parson Mortuary with Bishop Michael Perdue officiating. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery north of Muncie. Parson Mortuary Cremation Center is entrusted with these arrangements,
