Michael H. Cundiff, 73, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 14, 2021, at the Veterans
Administration Hospital in Indianapolis following a brief illness. He was born on December 5, 1947 in Gary, Indiana the son of L. Clay and Elenor (Chase) Cundiff. Michael married the love of his life, Theresa A. (McDaniel) Cundiff on April 16, 1966, and she survives.
Michael graduated from Central High School in 1966 and went to Indiana University in Bloomington for a short time prior to enlisting in the United States Army. Mr. Cundiff made the military his career and was discharged after 20 years of service having been assigned to the 560th Signal Battalion at Lowery Airforce Base, Colorado. Most recently Michael worked as a Court Bailiff for Superior Court Ill. He was a member of Master Gardner association and collected rocks and gems of all kinds. Michael enjoyed going to Gem shows and also collecting trains, coins and stamps. Mr. Cundiff was an avid fisherman as well.
Besides his wife of 54 years, Theresa, he is survived by two daughters, Julia Ray (Robert), Muncie and Michelle Schwitalla (Patrick), Fairmont, one son Michael CC Cundiff (Melissa), Ft. Wayne; two grandchildren, Stephan Ray, Indianapolis, and Nora Cundiff, Ft. Wayne; one sister, Diana Cundiff, Sao-Paulo, Brazil; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Caroline Webb and Julia Stock.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 11:00 am, with Father Christian DeCarlo officiating. Burial will follow at the Marion National Cemetery in Marion, Indiana at 2:00 P.M. Military honors will be rendered by the Delaware County Honor Guard.
