Michael Alan Mavis, 64, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Albany on Monday, May 29, 2023.
Mike was born in Japan on March 23, 1959, to Donald and Donna (Hutcheson) Mavis while his father was stationed with the Air Force. He came with his parents to live in Albany, IN as a young toddler in 1961. He graduated from Delta High School and eventually the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Mike was a walking encyclopedia of knowledge, especially anything to do with historical homes, glassware, and even his own family history, tracking them all the way back to the Mayflower. He was a dedicated member of the Delaware County Historical Society, a long-term member of the East Central Neighborhood Association, and a founding member of the Albany Glass Museum.
He was always someone who had an answer to anything you would ask him and would know more than enough details to support it. Even knowing events, people, and places by just looking at photos he may not have even been in or even nearby for!
Mike was preceded in death by both of his parents, Don and Donna Mavis as well as his close Aunt, Renee Molter, and Uncle, Gary Molter.
Survivors include his brother Bradley (April) Mavis, Lakeland, FL; five nieces and nephews Amanda (Skyler) Miller of Muncie, IN, Martin (Savannah Dickison) Mavis of Indianapolis, IN, Kaleigh (Caleb) Craft of Fort Stewart, GA, Jacob (Amber Aldridge) Mavis of Lakeland, FL and Alyssa Mavis, Warner Robins, GA and six great nieces: Mia, Jessica, Samantha, Alayna, Elizabeth and Aspyn. He also leaves behind several great friends whom he considered his own family.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Noon at Muncie Friends Church, 418 W Adams St, Muncie IN. Parking and entrance to the Church are off Jackson St.
