Richard “Dick” Stahl, 74, of Muncie, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at IU Ball Memorial Hospital. Dick was born on August 29, 1946 in Muncie.
Richard Stahl was born to Harold Jack Stahl and Martha Sue (Turner) Stahl. Richard attended Muncie Schools. Dick lived a colorful and energetic life. He was a longtime truck driver and local #135 Teamster member.
Dick was a former amateur and professional boxer for the Muncie Pal Club from the mid 1960's to the mid 1970's. He was an Indiana Golden Gloves Champion. He was also a CYO boxing tournament runner-up in Chicago. Dick absolutely loved his two boxing coaches, Chris McIntosh and John Conn. He enjoyed participating in boxing events throughout the Midwest. At one point he coached his own boxing team in Chesterfield Indiana.
Dick was able to meet his sports idol, Muhammed Ali in 1970. As a result of boxing, he became an avid jogger for over 20 years. Eventually a day came when he stopped running like the fictional character “Forrest Gump”. Despite being over 70 years old, Dick walked or rode his bicycle all around town. Dick was able to do over 200 pushups daily and he would let anyone know.
Dick was a Christian and believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a self-proclaimed street preacher and enjoyed sharing the word of the Lord to anyone who would listen.
Dick is survived by Fiancée Grace Walker; Daughter Lori K Stahl; Son Richard Stahl (Stephanie); Sisters Connie Stahl Aseere (Jay) and Carolyn Friedline; Brother Butch Garrett and special nephew Todd Mack. Along with Grandchildren Trevor Stahl and Leah Steele (boyfriend Charlie Doss); Great Grandchildren; Hezron Perez, Chevelle Steele and Alaina Doss; and several nieces and nephews.
Dick was proceeded in death by his parents, Harold and Sue Stahl; Wife's; Brenda K Sanders Stahl which was his children’s mother. Wife, Judy Stahl; Brother Bill Garrett.
The Stahl family and friends will be gathering on Saturday June 26th, 2021 at Heekin Park Cabin Number 5 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions can be made to dementiasociety.org as Dick was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia. The family apologizes to any of his family or friends or random people he may have hurt or punched in his lifetime. We recognize this as a lifetime of untreated mental illness. We are truly sorry for his actions.
