Willie McCoy Obituary

Willie E McCoy, 91, of Muncie, IN  passed into glory on January 28, 2023.

He was born on July 5, 1931, to Joe and Rena B. McCoy in McLain, Mississippi. Willie McCoy lived a long, beautiful hard-working life, where family and God were most important. If you knew him you knew his kindness, smile, heart, generosity, and strong work ethic. He would give his last dollar away.

Truly one of the most generous and hardest-working men, he moved to Muncie to find work and met the love of his life, Kathy. They would be celebrating 71 years of marriage in February. He was a veteran as he proudly served his country for four years as a firefighter in the United States Air Force.  He was also a 32nd-degree Master Mason from the Delaware lodge and a past deacon and usher of First Baptist Church.

His work ethic was shown by example - he worked during the days building beautiful homes in and around the Muncie area through McCoy homes, and in the afternoons and evenings, he worked at Delco Battery, where he retired after 33 years. Additionally, he and his wife owned Misty's House of Flowers for 40 years, where he was the delivery man 6 days per week until just before his homegoing.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He was referred to lovingly as “papa” and loved having his family around. Family meant everything. He was always telling stories of the past but oftentimes just being his ornery self to see your reaction, and then smile and laugh once you figured it out. One thing he often said was to trust in God, and “Don’t give up.”
Willie always loved to celebrate his birthday, as it was also his Mother’s birthday, and he was elated that every year he got his own firework show.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 3 brothers, and one daughter Patti. He is survived by his wife Kathryn, one daughter Debbie (Jerry) Rollen, Grandchildren Jason (Nici) Adams, Misty (Mike) Parks, Amanda Rollen, Jacob Rollen, and great-grandchildren Clay, Cole Jason, J.J., and Reagan.
