Donald E. Lawson, 85

            MUNCIE – Donald E. Lawson, 85, Muncie, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Golden Living Center, Muncie.

            He was born April 30, 1930 in Muncie, Indiana the son of the late Gilbert and Mildred (Reude) Lawson.  Donald grew up in Muncie and was a 1950 graduate of Royerton High School.  Donald was married to the love of his life Jacqueline “Jackie Sue” (Jackson) Lawson, who survives, for 64 years.

            In 1951 Donald enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean War.  After his honorable discharge from the Army in 1953 Donald began his career at Delco Remy where he worked on the assembly line and in the shipping department.  Prior to his retirement from Delco Battery Donald was an active member of Local 489 serving as financial secretary and Sergeant of Arms.  His co-workers remember Donald being a great asset to the company and always made sure the other workers were kept up to date and informed.  Everyone looked forward to Donald bringing donuts to work which he did on a daily basis, he was also a Democrat precinct committeeman for many years.  Donald was a member of the Gaston United Methodist Church.  Although he enjoyed working in his yard there were three things that took precedence over everything else, first he loved his job, second he loved sports, and the most important was the love he had for his wife “Jackie Sue”.

            Survivors include his wife, Jackie Lawson; three sisters, Marty King; Carolyn Hughes, (husband-Darrel); and Janie Sears, (husband-Bill); brother-in-law, Phil Jackson, (wife-Rebecca); and several nieces and nephews.

            He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rosalee Butterfield; and JoAnn Wagoner; three brothers, William Lawson; John Lawson; and David Lawson.

            Services will be held at Parson Mortuary at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 with Rev. John Long officiating.

            Calling will be at the mortuary from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016.

            Burial with military honors will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie.
