I would like to extend my sincerest condolences to Jerry’s family. I loved Jerry. I consider myself very lucky to have had Jerry as my friend. Nobody could ask for a more loyal friend than Jerry Smith. I had hoped to say a few words at Jerry’s funeral, but I had the day of this calling and funeral wrong in my mind. My parents and I showed up a little after 4 PM on Friday for his calling, and found we had missed everything. I was and I still am sick that I missed all of it. I had hoped to talk about Jerry’s loyalty to the kids at Muncie Central and also Monroe Central. My son played for John at Central, so I got to see Jerry give his full support to the Bearcats. Jerry loved the Bearcats and never wavered in his support for them. As much as Jerry supported the Bearcats, I think Jerry was a great influence on the kids he loved to watch play. Jerry was not blessed with some of the physical skills of the kids he supported. But Jerry was able show those kids about having good heart and being loyal no matter how the team plays. He also taught them that praying and having faith in God is a great thing for an adult. Jerry was a treasure, and he will be missed by all of us who were lucky enough to have known him.
With deepest sympathy,
Andy Munson

To Jerry's Family--

First, my deepest and sincere sympathy to you in the loss of this special man. I first met Jerry when he worked at Ross'. He and Butch always had a conversation for me, usually about sports! And low and behold, I would see Jerry at the games. We had some fun times and memories.

He would sometimes ride the bus with the cheerleaders to and from games; I would take him home when we returned to school. He loved his Bearcats.

He was also a neighbor to my husband's aunt, Sally Brumback. Jerry was always giving me messages from Sally, and would tell me that Sally had warned him about me! We had lots of laughs.

My thoughts and prayers are with you are Jerry moves on; he will now be free from any pain and has one the best seats in the house to watch his beloved Bearcats.
