Muncie- Betty J. Barnell, 87, passed away early Thursday morning, September 24, 2015, at the Morrison Woods Health Care Campus following an extended illness. She was born on May 12, 1928 in Portland, the daughter of Fred and Mable (Dague) Lutz.
Betty married the love of her life, Frank W. Barnell in 1943 in Kentucky and he preceded her in death on June 19, 1990. Mrs. Barnell worked as a Cook for the Salem Township Schools now known as the Daleville Community School Corporation for 17 years prior to her retirement in 1988. She was a member of the Shawnee Heights Baptist Church where she worked in children’s ministry and volunteered in other Christian ministries. Betty was also a 60 year member of the 4C”s Canasta Club and the Avondale Sympathy Club.
Survivor’s include two daughters, Kathy McPheron (husband-Phil), Greenfield and Carol Costerison (husband-Denny) Pendleton; two sons, Frank Barnell (wife-Pam), Anderson and Jon Barnell (companion-Gloria Weisse), Springport; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Diane Barnell, Moore, Oklahoma; one sister, Helen Hartley, Muncie; one brother, Jack Lutz (wife-Emma), Syracuse; one sister-in-law, Martha Lloyd, Springport.
Besides her husband of 47years, Frank, she is preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Toni and Steve Miller; her son, Fred Barnell; granddaughter, Lacy Barnell; her parents; one brother, Robert Lutz.
Funeral services will be held Monday September 28, 2015, 1:00 P.M. at the Parson Mortuary with Pastor Dennis Hammons officiating. Burial will follow at the Tomlinson Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Parson Mortuary on Monday, September 28, 2015 from 11:00 A.M. until service time.
